Palace may still be searching for their first top-flight win of the campaign, but they’ve been in decent form nonetheless, edging ahead at the Emirates on the opening day, before going down 2-1, and were unlucky not to beat Newcastle at St James’ Park in a 3-3 draw last time out.

On balance, Neil Warnock’s side emerging triumphant in this battle of the winless without conceding rates the margin call.

Dwight Gayle to score the first goal @ 11/2

Why the former Peterborough striker is all the way out to this price truly baffles, considering his frankly incredible current form.

After notching all the goals in the Eagles’ 3-0 Capital One Cup win at Walsall, with the first coming in the seventh minute, Gayle took just 29 seconds to bag the opener away to Alan Pardew’s Magpies. First-scorer backers take note.

James McArthur to score at any time @ 8/1

Palace’s £7m signing from Wigan isn’t renowned as a goalscorer, but he did bag three in five Championship fixtures for the Latics between February and March of last term, plus a 90th-minute equaliser for Uwe Rosler’s side at home to Reading on the opening day of the current campaign.

With captain Mile Jedinak likely to be in situ as the Eagles’ deepest-lying midfielder, there will be plenty of scope for McArthur to bomb further up the field against Burnley, so 8/1 odds seem very generous for a debut goal.
