Coventry v Gillingham: McQuoid among 3 best bets

Published:

Coventry City make their long awaited return to the Ricoh Arena on Friday night and fans couldn’t have hoped for better opponents than Gillingham.

Games between the two clubs are often high-scoring affairs and this match looks poised to deliver on the goals front yet again.

Coventry are priced at 5/6 for the win, with the Gills priced as 10/3 underdogs and the draw available at 5/2 but here James Curtis highlights three of the best bets for the game.

Over 2.5 goals at 10/11

Odds-on bets may not tempt many but history suggests you could put your house on this one with little fear.

The last six games between the two clubs have seen 28 goals scored at 4.66 per match.

Those games may have taken place over a decade but with Coventry scoring in eight of their last nine games and Gillingham conceding 17 in their last five away matches it looks nailed on.

Coventry to win and BTTS @ 12/5

With the hosts unattractively priced for victory and the stats suggesting goals at both ends it could pay to take the longer odds on Coventry winning despite being breached at the back – as they have been in four of their last six fixtures.

Coventry have lost just three of their last 15 as the “home” side and should relish being back at the Ricoh, especially against a Gills outfit that has won just once in 10 games on the road.

Josh McQuoid to score first @ 2/1

After netting a double on the opening day Coventry defender Reda Johnson tempts at 16/1, while the Gills’ Danny Kedwell, who has hit four in five this season, is also worth considering at 7/1.

However, with three goals in his last four games – all of which have opened the scoring – it is former Bournemouth man McQuoid who is the pick of the bunch at 2/1.
