Chelsea all set to shut out Schalke for 5th time in succession
In the third instalment of England versus Germany in the Champions League, all of which occurred last season too, Chelsea host Bundesliga strugglers Schalke at Stamford Bridge having made a tyre-spinning start to the season.
Diego Costa has been steering the Blues’ bolting dragster, and we’ve tipped the former Brazilian international to continue his scoring exploits in our three-pronged betting attack on the match:
Jose Mourinho’s usual lock-down defensive strategy has been somewhat absent so far this term, only keeping one clean sheet as the side search for a more enterprising style of play.
However the visit of Jen Keller’s side should ensure the Blues’ sheets return to pristine status.
Schalke have never scored a goal against the Londoners in their previous four Champions League clashes with them.
Of those four shutouts, three of them ended in a Chelsea win including both of last season’s tussles.
The Stamford Bridge outfit are actually unbeaten in seven home games against German opposition, with only one of those visitors, Bayern Munich in 2004/05, managing to register a goal.
Costa’s blitz on the Premier League, in which he has seven goals in four games, shouldn’t be a surprise.
He made a similarly formidable start to his Champions League debut, scoring in each of the opening five matches with Atletico Madrid – bagging a brace in two of those.
