Burnley Transfer Watch: Rumours link Clarets with Russell Martin

Published:

We’ve already reported on Burnley’s capture of George Boyd from Hull and a potential loan move for Chelsea’s Nathan Chalobah.

However, another target has emerged this morning with the Clarets reportedly tabling a bid for Norwich City captain Russell Martin.

Clarets boss Sean Dyche has made it well known that he’s in the market for defensive reinforcements as he aims to keep his side in the Premier League.

And signing versatile Scotland international Martin, who can operate as either a right back or in central defence, would represent a decent piece of business.

The former Wycombe player has enjoyed a meteoritic rise since moving to the Canaries in 2009 and is likely to be open to talks and the potential of a quickfire return to the top flight.

If the reports are true and Burnley can complete a deal the arrival of the 28-year-old would represent their ninth signing of the summer window (including Boyd but without Chalobah).

The Clarets are 1/2 to suffer relegation at the end of the season having collected one point from their three games so far.
