Buccaneers @ Falcons: Home defence to give winless Bucs a sniff

Published:

What is clear now, and was masked by their surprise overtime win over divisional rivals the New Orleans Saints, is that the Atlanta Falcons defence is not up to much.

Going into the week-three-opening tussle with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Falcons’ D has allowed more yards in their first two outings than any other team in the league and is the only outfit yet to register a sack.

In victory over the Saints, The Dirty Birds conceded 34 points. The following week, the Cincinnati Bengals put 24 on the board in a win.

Now, the Falcons play host to a Buccaneers side that should aid a break from the defensive slump.

Tampa are the second-worst passing team in the league after two weeks, averaging just 169 yards-per-game. They also average just 15.5 points-per-clash, which ranks them 27th of the 32 teams.

But with the Falcons being so inefficient without the ball, backing the visitors to score over the 19.0-point-line offered at 20/23 is definitely worth taking.

When it comes to offence, however, quarterback Matt Ryan and his chums turn the statistics tables on their heads by boasting the second-best yards-per-game average in the league.

It’s that offence that will see the hosts prevail in a repeat of the shootout the Georgia Dome faithful witnessed against the Saints in week one.

The Falcons are 10/29 favourites to go 2-1, with a tempting 7/2 on offer for a home victory by a margin of 1-6 points.
