Breaking Bets: Can Stones make it a full England debut to remember?

Published:

There will not be a prouder man at Wembley Stadium tonight than John Stones as he gets set to make his full England debut against Norway.

And Ladbrokes have priced up the Everton defender to celebrate in style with the latest of the bookmaker’s Breaking Bets series.

The 20-year-old, who has made two substitute appearances for England so far, has been priced up at 16/1 to score in a much needed England win.

While the former Barnsley man, who has been handed the right-back berth by Roy Hodgson, has not scored a senior career goal in 46 matches for the Tykes and Everton, tonight could be the night in what is usually a cagey fixture.

Only one goal has been scored in the last three clashes between England and Norway and with both sides without a win in their last five matches confidence could be low.

It could take a set piece to break the deadlock or a moment of brilliance and if it is the former Stones could well be in the running to get on the scoresheet.

And if Norway prove hard to break down, Stones will be urged to get forward down the right flank and if he finds himself in space he could get an opportunity to find the back of the net.

England are the 1/2 favourites with Ladbrokes for victory in their first match since what can only be described as a disastrous World Cup campaign.

Norway are 13/2 to pile even more pressure on Hodgson and his team, while the draw available at 3/1.

But with the likes of captain Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge eager to impress and bring the crowds back to Wembley, the Three Lions should get the new season off to a winning start.

And for those customers following the Breaking Bet series, let’s hope Stones makes it a debut to remember and pops up with a goal.
