Bears @ Jets: All things going Chicago in the Big Apple

Published:

It’s all going off in New York this weekend, with the Jets hosting the Chicago Bears at MetLife Stadium barely 24 hours after city brethren the Giants beat the high-flying Houston Texans at the same ground.

We can’t get behind the city that never sleeps (the ground is actually in New Jersey) doubling up for the weekend, with our three best bets leaning largely towards the Midwestern visitors.

Chicago Bears to win @ 5/4

After going down to an ultra-narrow 23-20 defeat against the Buffalo Bills on opening day, Chicago got their season underway properly with a 28-20 over the 49ers in San Francisco, despite conceding the first five scores of the match.

Marc Trestman’s men are the underdogs in the Big Apple, but the Jets only scraped past the Oakland Raiders in their first fixture, and the Californians are now 0-3 for the season after a weekend loss to New England.

The hosts have plenty to prove following a 31-24 defeat at the Packers last time out, making the visiting Bears value on the Money Line.

Double Result – New York Jets/Chicago Bears @ 7/1

The Jets raced into a 14-3 first-quarter lead at Green Bay, but could only manage 10 more points to their opponents 28 in the second and third, with the hosts holding on late.

Based on that form, allied with Chicago’s slow start in California, this half-time/full-time flip looks a decent bet.

Winning Margin – Chicago Bears 7-12 @ 5/1

Neither of these sides’ four fixtures so far in 2014/15 have been settled by any more than eight points, and this wager would have come up in the Bears’ triumph over San Francisco, who are prominent in the betting for Super Bowl XLIX at 16/1.

Considering the hosts – 100/1 in the same market – went down to defeat within these parameters last time out, this looks a decent side bet.
