Aviva Premiership: Bath too big to knock Saints off their perch

Published:

The shock hammerings kept on coming in gameweek three of this season’s Aviva Premiership, with a pair of 38-plus point wins following up Saracens’ mauling of Harlequins seven days earlier.

After calling Bath’s victory over Leicester (though not the winning margin) we’ve gone back to the blue and blacks for the first pick in our weekend accumulator, which will pay out at over 28/1 if successful.

Bath to beat Northampton @ 12/5

In what other sport would a team that beat their greatest rivals 45-0 be such a big price in the following match?

Bath are clearly a coming force, and while defending champions Northampton battered Gloucester 53-6 in their only other home fixture this season, Mike Ford’s men’s dismantling of Leicester last time out makes a mockery of their current odds.

Harlequins to beat Exeter @ 11/8

Exeter have been useful so far this term, winning both of their matches on the road against London Welsh and Gloucester, but are yet to taste victory when hosting in 2014/15.

A Jekyll-and-Hyde Quins side, who have triumphed in two of their fixtures, but were bludgeoned 39-0 at home to Saracens, get the nod to keep the Chiefs waiting for a Sandy Park win at decent odds.

Newcastle +15 to beat Wasps @ 10/11

Newcastle are yet to claim a morale-boosting triumph this season, but have been far from embarrassed in clashes with Leicester, London Irish and Northampton.

Wasps will be shattered from fixtures against Sarries, Saints and Harlequins, none of which have been settled by more than six points, so take the visitors to keep it tight in High Wycombe.

Leicester -14 to beat London Irish @ 10/11

Both Gloucester and Harlequins have bounced back from hammerings to win next time out so far this term.

Leicester were two from two for the campaign before being dragged through a hedge backwards by Bath, and London Irish’s narrow defeat to Saracens means they’ve lost all three of their 2014/15 fixtures so far.

Expect Richard Cockerill’s wounded Tigers to roar back at Welford Road.
