Aston Villa make bid for Sociedad midfielder Sergio Canales

Aston Villa are trying to replace Karim El Ahmadi with another attacking midfielder on deadline day and that search has led them to bid for a former Real Madrid player.

Sergio Canales currently plys his trade for Real Sociedad having moved on from previous club Valencia in January, but the Villans wish to prise him away from Spanish football.

Sky Sports News reports from Villa’s training ground that a bid has been launched for the 23-year-old midfielder who had previously been brought by Spanish giants Real, where he made 10 senior appearances during 2010/11.

Injuries had restricted the Spaniard’s career development after moving to Valencia from the Bernabeu, but since his Sociedad switch this winter Canales has impressed; scoring twice in 13 games and chipping in with two more assists.

If he does agree a move to the Midlands, Canales could yet be joined by England midfielder Tom Cleverley who is still favourite to join up with Paul Lambert’s squad.

Villa’s next Premier League assignment is away at Liverpool where they secured a 2-2 draw last season and Lambert’s side are priced at 5/1 to bring back another point back from Anfield in 2014/15.
