Are Arsenal closing in on a deal for Huntelaar?

Arsenal are closing in on a deal to sign Danny Welbeck according to former Gunners Alan Smith but if you are monitoring twitter it’s a Dutch striker who is on his way to north London.

German newspaper Junge Welt is reporting that Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is the man Arsenal have chosen to solve their striker crisis after the club met his £12.75m release clause at Schalke.

Reports suggest the former Real Madrid striker is on his way to London to complete a move to the Emirates Stadium which could throw Welbeck’s move to the Gunners in jeopardy.

What is for certain is Arsenal are in the market to sign a player with Arsene Wenger revealing he hopes to sign a player before the 11pm deadline.

With Olivier Giroud out until the new year and Yaya Sanogo not proving up to the task of leading the line for the Gunners Wenger looks certain to sign a striker.

And if it is to be Huntelaar the Dutch international certainly has an eye for goal, scoring 210 goals in 329 appearances.

Arsenal, who are 12/1 to win the title, still remain in the market for defensive reinforcements but with time running out before the transfer window slams shut only one deal seems likely.
