Arsenal on alert with PSG ready to listen to offers for Rabiot

Arsenal’s search for a defensive midfielder could be coming to an end with the news Paris Saint-Germain are willing to sell French midfielder Adrien Rabiot in January.

The 19-year-old, who is out of contract next year, has been on Arsene Wenger’s radar since the summer and the Gunners are now ready to start negotiations with the Ligue 1 outfit.

It’s been much publicised that Arsenal are need of a defensive-minded midfielder to balance the attacking talents of Mesut Ozil, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey.

None more so than in the 2-0 Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund where Mikel Arteta was over-run by Jurgen Klopp’s energetic midfield.

Laurent Blanc is keen to keep hold of Rabiot at PSG but with Arsenal and Juventus interested that may prove to be difficult.

The former Creteil star has yet to agree a contract extension at the Parc des Princes and with a star-studded squad in Paris game time has been limited for the French youth international.

The north London club are now ready to force the situation in the January transfer window as they look to add some steel to a midfield fighting on three fronts for silverware.

Arsenal suffered defeat at the hands of Southampton as they exited the Capital One Cup at the third round stage but after an unbeaten start to the Premier League season Wenger’s men are the 9/1 third favourites with Ladbrokes to win the title.

The Gunners have strengthened significantly over the summer but failing to add a holding midfielder and another defensive option looks to have been a huge mistake.

If Wenger can hang onto the coat tails of Chelsea and Manchester City until January and then add to his squad in those key positions, the Arsenal fans’ 11-year wait for league glory may just come to an end.
