Take Williams and Bottas to prosper in Belgian Grand Prix

Published:

After a four-week break, Formula 1 returns to the track with Mercedes having ample time to iron out the prickliness caused by their Hungarian team orders.

Whether Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are now bosom buddies or not, they’ll be the pair to beat again for the Belgian Grand Prix, as the betting indicates.

Away from the Woking-based constructor though, here are the best three side-bets for the race at Spa-Francorchamps:

Fernando Alonso top 6 finish @ 2/5

Ferarri’s tempestuous Spanish driver has been in reasonable form this season considering his car is off the pace compared to others, only failing to finish outside the top six once.

He’s never won this race in his 12-year career, but has finished no lower than fourth on the five occasions he’s lasted the course.

Williams highest scoring team @ 7/1

Williams are a distant fourth in the one-horse race that is the constructors championship this term, but are well placed to challenge Mercedes’ monopoly here.

A powerful engine and a suitable configuration should play into the Oxfordshire-based team’s hands and their performances at unfavourable tracks, like qualifying one-tenth of a second off Red Bull at Hungary, should point to a prosperous weekend.

Valtteri Bottas podium finish @ 15/8

Of the Williams pair, Finland’s Bottas is the one to bank on for a top-three finish.

Aside from one retirement, in Monaco, the 24-year-old is yet to finish lower than eighth in a race this season and secured three podium’s in a row before Hungary last time out.
