Walls rapidly closing in on West Ham’s beer-soaked boss
West Ham fans apparent indignation towards Sam Allardyce appeared to reach fever pitch during their last pre-season game against Malaga and this resentment is fully reflected in Ladbrokes next Premier League manager to leave market.
According to some reputable sources Allardyce was subject to having a pint of beer kicked off a ledge from the stands which then soaked him as he trudged off the pitch in Gelsenkirchen after a dismal 2-0 defeat to Malaga.
With the forthcoming season less than a fortnight away Big Sam currently sits in the unenviable position of clear favourite at 11/10 to be the first top-flight gaffer given the boot.
Already under serious pressure from large swathes of disgruntled Irons fans following a season of gritty football and disappointing results at Upton Park, the last thing Allardyce needed was an abject pre-season.
Unfortunately for him, thats exactly what Allardyce has delivered so far, with the aforementioned loss to Malaga making it six winless warm-up games to date.
Although the former Newcastle chief has acted decisively to bring in fresh attacking talent in an effort to comply with his fresh mandate of more exciting football, displays so far have promised little, if any improvement.
To a certain extent Allardyce is the victim of injury misfortune again as record signing Andy Carroll is yet again ruled out for a substantial period, while new boy Enner Valencia is unlikely to make the start of the season either.
Unless Big Sam can find a magic formula during the early throws of the new season, expect to see him featuring more regularly on the pundit sofa than chewing gum on the touchline soon.
