Spurs line up former Arsenal man as Schneiderlin plan B

With time running out, Spurs have been linked with Barcelona’s Alex Song as a possible alternative to Schneiderlin, and the former Arsenal man might be just the ticket for the Lilywhites.
Firstly, the price is right, as Song is reportedly available on a free loan this summer, a move that would give Spurs a stop-gap option before renewing their attempts to sign Schneiderlin next summer.
The Cameroon international’s extensive experience would also be a boon to Spurs’ squad, which is still laden with players who have spent just one or two years in the Premier League.
Song spent seven seasons at Arsenal before making the switch to the Camp Nou in 2012, but has found his opportunities limited in a jam-packed Barcelona midfield.
In his final campaign with the Gunners, the midfielder registered 11 assists, the fourth-best tally in the Premier League, demonstrating that there is more to his game than just sturdy defensive work.
Spurs might still need to shed one or two midfielders from their squad before making any additions, with both Lewis Holtby and Sandro linked with moves away, but if Song is available in a cut price deal, they could do far worse than the former Gunner.
After winning their first two league games Spurs are 11/4 to make it into the Premier League’s top four this season.
