Southampton v West Brom: Koeman to get just deserts this time

Published:

The raft of Southampton obituaries written this summer were quickly resigned to fish and chip paper after their opening-day trip to Liverpool as Ronald Koeman’s new-look team were visibly the better side for large periods despite losing 2-1.

Now, in the Dutchman’s first game at St Mary’s we’re predicting West Brom to feel the brunt of the Saints frustrations in our trio of bets for the contest.

Southampton to beat West Brom @ 17/20

As mentioned above, Southampton dispelled talk of their demise with a bright and cohesive display which was certainly good enough to have earned a point if not all three at Anfield.

Visiting West Brom enjoyed mixed fortunes at home to Sunderland meanwhile, getting stung by a late equaliser, but were beaten twice 1-0 by their hosts as well.

Shockingly, the Baggies have never won away from home in the top flight during August.

Southampton to score 2-3 goals @ 6/5

Only Simon Mignolet’s lightning reflexes prevented Koeman’s side scoring twice against Liverpool and they look an adventurous side, with plenty of goal threat.

At home, the south coast outfit have averaged in excess of two goals per game taking in their last five at St.Mary’s and should open up a vulnerable Baggies defence more than once.

Dusan Tadic to score anytime @ 7/4

All the scouting reports about the Eredivisie’s top assister proved to be accurate as his delightful backheel played in Nathaniel Clyne to blast home an equaliser at Anfield.

Tadic was a menace all afternoon, threading balls from the left and driving towards goal.

The Serbian playmaker also registered 16 goals last season and looks a decent shout to open his Southampton account at home.
