QPR the perfect platform for Man United man to kick-start career

Published:

Despite getting some pre-season game-time under Louis van Gaal, reports suggest Manchester United’s new boss is about to sanction a season-long loan to QPR for Wilfried Zaha.

Even though Sir Alex Ferguson saw fit to spend £15m on the former Crystal Palace trickster, Zaha never settled at Old Trafford under Fergie’s successor David Moyes, before being farmed out to Cardiff on loan last season.

With a new manager in charge of the Red Devils Zaha would have been hopeful of a change of fortunes at the 13-time Premier League champions, but a move to QPR may just be the catalyst his career needs.

In the projected 3-5-2 system Van Gaal prefers to deploy Zaha is not the kind of forward player who can easily be converted into a wing-back, unlike perhaps Ashley Young who has always done his fair share of tracking back.

This would have meant Zaha having to compete with Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck for those two front positions, a tough ask in anyone’s book.

Whereas a move to QPR – where Harry Redknapp is a known advocate of fielding wingers in a 4-4-2 – as he did when getting Tottenham into the top four, this should suit Zaha much better.

Zaha shot to prominence as a winger with a treasure trove of tricks to call upon at Selhurst Park, but has since suffered a crisis of confidence since that big-money switch to United.

What he needs is consistent exposure in the top flight to regain his mojo and Redknapp should be able to afford him that at Loftus Road.

QPR kick-off their campaign against Hull at home where Ladbrokes place them as 7/5 shots for victory.
