QPR v Hull: Barton back with a bang among our 3 best bets

Published:

Harry Redknapp and QPR’s spell away from the Premier League proved as short as possible, courtesy of a play-off final win over Derby at the end of their season back in the Championship, and the west Londoners have been handed a relatively soft landing against Hull on opening day.

The Tigers found £12m too good to refuse from Southampton for striker Shane Long, while Redknapp and Hoops owner Tony Fernandes haven’t been able to get rid of hotshot Loic Remy, despite trying their best.

Remy looks likely to play a part at Loftus Road and is no bad bet at 5/1 to open the scoring, but we’ve come up with three ever-so-slightly better wagers to kick things off.

Joey Barton to score at any time @ 4/1

The recent Question Time panellist can put his largely useless cod-political opinions aside now he has returned to his favourite hunting ground.

31 goals in 327 all-competition career appearances may not sound like a lot, but 24 have come in the Premier League.

Barton is an underrated player and an overrated philosopher, so he should go well this term if he stays off Twitter for a few hours a week.

QPR to win @ 7/5

The last time Hull came away from a Premier League match on the road with any points was back in late February, when Cardiff took a 4-0 pasting en route to relegation.

No team that stayed in the top flight last term claimed fewer away wins and points than Steve Bruce’s side, who look up against it in west London.

Under 2.5 total goals @ 8/13

Top-flight fixtures featuring Hull limboed below this mark 23 times last term, and both sides drew blanks in the away leg of the Tigers’ Europa League third qualifying-round clash with Slovakians AS Trencin.

Given that 10 of QPR’s final 19 games of last season also featured fewer than three goals, this bet has a great chance of landing at indicatively-short odds.
