Premier League Fantasy Forecast: Jovetic to star again

Published:

Two weeks into the new campaign and fantasy football managers are either tearing their hair out or smugly smoking fat cigars as their pre-season picks either flop or flourish.

Whether you’ve flown out of the blocks or immediately stumbled, there’s no letting up as match day three rolls around, and we at news.ladbrokes have assembled a crack squad to tackle the weekend.

One of two keepers yet to concede a goal so far this season, Brad Guzan gets the nod over Hugo Lloris by virtue of a cheaper price-tag and an easier fixture in the shape of Hull City’s visit to Villa Park.

Despite Spurs facing Liverpool, a side they conceded nine to in two games last term, there’s still room for Eric Dier in our side due to the young defender’s eye for goal.

Dier became the first defender ever to score in both of his first two Premier League games when he headed home against QPR.

Due to the lack of realistic rigour in fantasy football selection, we’ve opted for two more right-backs to join Dier in our defence.

Daryl Janmaat could secure points at both ends this weekend, with the attacking full-back facing Crystal Palace at St James’ Park, while Pablo Zabaleta is another man with great attacking potential.

Rounding off the back four is Swansea’s Ashley Williams, who led his defence to a clean sheet in the win over Burnley last week, and should repeat the feat at the Liberty against West Brom, who drew a blank at Southampton.

Anchoring our midfield is the point-plundering pairing of Cesc Fabregas and Aaron Ramsey. The Chelsea player has already notched three assists this term, while the Welshman has scored twice.

Ahead of this duo is an attacking midfield band of Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Remy Cabella.

Mata has looked out of form this season, but that didn’t stop him netting at Sunderland, his seventh goal in his last eight Premier League games, while Sigurdsson has two assists and a goal already this term.

Cabella has yet to hit the mark, but bagged 10 goals and five assists last season in Ligue 1, and only three players have created more chances than his six in the league so far. A home clash against Palace should see him produce some big points.

Upfront we’ve opted for Man City striker Stevan Jovetic, who notched twice in the Citizens’ win over Liverpool last week, and will have another chance to score big again when Stoke come to town.

The Citizens are 7/10 to win to nil against Stoke, who have started the season with a 1-0 home loss to Aston Villa and a 1-1 draw at Hull.
