Newcastle United linked to Palermo’s Uruguayan Robbie Keane

Published:

Back when Robbie Keane signed for Liverpool in an ill-fated £18m move, the Irishman expressed his delight at having signed for his dream club.

The only problem was that, by then, Keane had already moved to two of his dream clubs, Leeds United and Tottenham, with spells at future “dream” clubs Celtic and West Ham United to come.

Now departed from English shores after sealing yet another “dream” move to the USA with LA Galaxy, the Premier League is in need of new dreamer to fill the void left by the 34-year-old.

And the good news is they may have found it in Palermo striker Abel Hernandez, the striker who “dreams” of securing a move to three clubs – though not necessarily all at once.

A Uruguayan international who watched on from the bench as Luis Suarez tucked into the delicious-looking shoulder of Giorgios Chiellini, Hernandez knows his football and knows where wants to go.

Speaking to Gazetta Dello Sport back in February, the 24-year-old outlined his “dream”.

“I dream of Newcastle, Real or Atletico in the future,” he said.

Last season’s two Champions League finalists yes, but Newcastle United? Perhaps Hernandez spoke with his compatriot Luis Suarez on the subject, after all, the now-Barcelona biter always enjoyed playing against the Toon.

But while Hernandez certainly possesses Keane’s child-like ability to convince himself that his next move is always the one he daydreamed about as a young boy, the South American may also share the Irish striker’s penchant for finding the net regularly.

Hernandez hit 14 goals in 28 games for Palermo last season to help the club make an immediate return to Serie A.

The Toon already have their fair share of new forwards, it hasn’t stopped the club being linked with a move for the player, who is also thought to be on the radars of both Southampton and Sunderland.

The question now is whether Alan Pardew and Mike Ashley will make his dream come true, because I don’t think he should be expecting a call from Carlo Ancelotti or Diego Simeone any time soon.
