Newcastle v Crystal Palace: Back the hosts to win to nil

Some reunions are more welcome than others and while Crystal Palace fans are rejoicing this week at Wilfried Zaha’s reappearance, a more circumspect reaction surrounds Neil Warnock’s return as manager.

Although he has managed in the Premier League before, it took Warnock 34 years to actually be appointed by a top-flight club, and his reign is unlikely to start with anything but defeat.

Neither side have won a match yet this season, with Newcastle 8/11 to change that at St James’ Park, while Palace are priced at 4/1 and the draw 13/5.

Despite their avian superiority, the Eagles have not managed to score a goal against the Magpies in any of the seven games the pair have played since the turn of the century.

Newcastle won 1-0 at St James’ and 3-0 at Selhurst Park last season and should register a third clean sheet of the campaign against a Palace side who scored the third-fewest goals in the league last term with 33.

Adding in their two wins over Palace in the Championship in 2009/10, Newcastle are on a four-game winning streak against the Eagles, and should extend that easily enough on Saturday.

Remy Cabella to score at any time @ 7/4

The highly-rated winger has made an impressive start to life at Newcastle and is a good bet to open his account for his new club against Palace.

Cabella scored 14 times in Ligue 1 last season with Montpellier and also notched two in the Magpies’ final three pre-season friendlies.

His lack of goals so far is not for want of trying, as only Stevan Jovetic took more shots than his three when Manchester City won 2-0 in Newcastle’s first match.

A Palace defence that has shipped five already, the joint-most in the league, should prove more amenable than City’s backline.

Under 2.5 goals @ 2/3

Although there have been plenty of goals in Palace’s first two league games, they haven’t been scoring many of them, with just one in each match, while Newcastle are yet to get off the mark in the league.

In fact, given that the Magpies’ 1-0 win at Gillingham in the Capital One Cup came via an own goal, none of their players have rippled the net yet this season in any competition.

Although you’d still back the hosts for the win, a goalfest is decidedly unlikely and piling on the unders looks an easy way to make money from this clash.
