Published:Swansea have built quite a reputation for finding effective strikers on the relative cheap during their time in the Premier League, with both Michu and Wilfried Bony’s debut campaigns helping to solidify that thought.
The Spaniard, although now on loan at Napoli, scored 18 times in the top flight after joining the Welsh club, while Bony managed 16 last term following his switch from Vitesse.
If the Swans get anywhere near that number from their latest find though, then their position as the league’s most prominent striking miners will be unrivalled.
Plucking Modou Barrow out of the Swedish lower leagues for £1.5m doesn’t seem like earth-moving business but given Swansea’s track record, writing the Gambian forward off would be perilous.
Having let his 634 followers know via the below tweet last week that he was heading to Wales, Barrow is reportedly poised to make the gargantuan leap to the Premier League from Sweden’s second tier.

Having scored nine times in 18 games for Ostersunds FK this season, the 21-year-old caught the eye of Bolton earlier in the summer, where he spent a short while on trial.
His pace, shown in what Alan Hansen would call abundance in the customary YouTube highlight reel below, was enough to convince the Championship outfit to lodge a bid, but the £600,000 offered was deemed derisory.
Celtic were also sniffing around the forward, who can operate up front or on the right-wing, but it’s Swansea, who are 17/20 to beat West Brom next time out, who look to have won the transfer race.
Should he pass a medical, Barrow is expected to make Swansea the sixth club of his brief professional career.
