Breaking Bets: Liverpool’s new SAS 12/1 to fire again at Man City

Published:

Liverpool have spent much of the summer tearing around Europe trying to cram as many players into their trolley as possible in an attempt to replace Luis Suarez.

However, after their 2-1 win over Southampton, it looks like the Reds already had the best men available to help fans forget the Uruguayan striker on their books at the start of the transfer window.

Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling both scored against the Saints, and Ladbrokes have priced the new SAS up at 12/1 to repeat the feat when Liverpool play Manchester City.

Clearly the Premier League champions, who recorded a 2-0 win at Newcastle in their first game, will provide a stern test to Brendan Rodgers’ side, but both Sterling and Sturridge have done well against the Citizens in recent years.

The 19-year-old winger needed just six minutes to find the net against City in Liverpool’s 3-2 win at Anfield last season.

Sturridge had to go off injured in the 66th minute of that match, and missed the game at the Etihad earlier in the campaign altogether, but did score in the 2012/13 season when Liverpool drew 2-2 in Manchester.

The England forward has also bagged more goals than any other Premier League player in 2014 with 13, finishing last term behind only Suarez in the top-scorer standings.

Sterling’s goal against Southampton took him to four in his past six games in the league, and now in a more attacking role, the teenager is set to easily outstrip the ten strikes he managed in all competitions last season.

City are 9/10 to triumph in this early clash of two title-contenders, with Liverpool 3/1 to win a league game at the Etihad for the first time since 2008, and the draw available at 13/5.
