Liverpool and Arsenal target linked with imminent La Liga switch
Published:Three of the first five teams in the betting for Premier League title honours this term will be ringing their money-men this morning, following reports that Germany international Marco Reus will leave Borussia Dortmund for La Liga champions Atletico Madrid in a €27m move.

This morning’s reports seem a little off-kilter, as Dortmund are said to have agreed on the aforementioned fee in order to save around €2.5m by selling Reus now as opposed to the end of next season.
Die Schwarzgelben held onto Robert Lewandowski last summer when he had only 12 months left to serve instead of selling him for £20m-plus, before Bayern Munich convinced the Polish striker to sign a pre-contract agreement at the Allianz Arena in January ahead of a free transfer.
With this in mind, it seems unlikely that coach Jurgen Klopp would sanction a Reus deal at the numbers reported, but the 25-year-old’s re-emergence on the transfer radar suggests a 2014 switch is in the offing.
Atleti have banked around £50m in transfer fees from Chelsea alone since their epic La Liga triumph, but Diego Simeone needs to raise funds every summer just to keep Los Colchoneros afloat, due to the criminally unfair distribution of television money in Spain.
Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been credited with keen interests in Reus and all three Premier League giants have the financial muscle to beat Atleti to his signature, should they choose to.
Of course, Reus may have his heart set on a move to the Vicente Calderon, where he would become Simeone’s star man in a stroke, but the smart money says this whisper will rumble on for a while more.
