League Two: Newport to prove too strong for Wycombe at Rodney Parade

Published:

The Football League is back and what better way to celebrate than the first in a long line of Ladbrokes News’ League Two accumulators.

There may be plenty of tricky fixtures on the opening day of English football’s fourth tier but that has not stopped us from tipping up wins for Newport, Bury, Stevenage and Portsmouth in a fourfold priced at nearly 19/1 with Ladbrokes.

And what’s more, our fantastic money back offer means if one team on accumulators of four more selections lets you down we will refund your stake as a free bet.*

Newport to beat Wycombe @11/10

If there’s one thing we’ve learnt in recent seasons it’s the fact Newport County are a difficult proposition to face in front of their home fans in League Two.

The Exiles finished last season with three straight wins at Rodney Parade, including a 2-0 victory over opening day opponents Wycombe and will be confident of a repeat result against the Chairboys.

Bury to beat Cheltenham @ 10/11

Bury are another side who finished last season very strongly, suffering just one defeat from their final 10 games in League Two.

The Gigg Lane outfit have certainly not rested on their laurels in the off season with veteran striker Ryan Lowe returning, while goalkeeper Shwan Jalal and winger Kelvin Etuhu have both joined the Shakers as well.

With just one win from six games in pre-season, Cheltenham are not filling supporters with any sort of confidence so expect the League Two favourites to come out on top.

Stevenage to beat Hartlepool @ 21/20

Stevenage have not tasted victory in pre-season but that may not tell the full story with Graham Westley’s side holding West Ham, Millwall and Reading to draws at Broadhall Way.

Hartlepool, the only squad in England’s top four divisions to boast a squad entirely of Englishmen, are the visitors on the opening day but after winning just four games on the road throughout last season, Stevenage should have enough quality for all three points.

Portsmouth to beat Exeter @ 23/20

Portsmouth are a side on the up after a strong finish to last season and an excellent summer so far in the transfer market.

Pompey finished the last campaign on a seven game unbeaten run and will be targeting an opening day victory against an Exeter side, who have suffered three straight pre-season defeats to Reading, Swansea and Torquay.

We expect Andy Awford’s side to hit the ground running and take all three points at St James Park.
