Isner and Tsonga to stroll into third round at US Open

Published:

The early rounds of tennis grand slam are never the easiest place to find value as top seeds ruthlessly dispose of whatever lowly opponent they are drawn against.

However, we’ve gone hunting for well-priced wagers at the US Open and come away with these three best bets for Day Four at Flushing Meadows.

John Isner to beat Jan-Lennard Struff 3-0 @ 4/5

Assuming home favourite Isner can stay fit throughout this match, it’s impossible to see antyhing but a straight sets victory for the American.

Isner has made at least the third round at Flushing Meadows in each of his past five appearances, while Struff’s five-set win over Mikhail Kukushkin saw him reach the second round of any slam for just the second time.

The American has already won a tournament in the US Open series- in Atlanta – and looked in good form at the Winston-Salem Open until retiring injured.

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to beat Aleksandr Nedovyesov 3-0 @ 4/11

It’s not been a stellar year for the Frenchman, who has exited in the third round of each of the three majors so far, but his recent hard court form makes him an irresistible pick to win in straight sets against Nedovyesov.

Tsonga beat Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and Roger Federer to win the recent Toronto Masters, dropping one set in the whole tournament.

Although he let a set slip in the first round against Juan Monaco, Tsonga is unlikely to be similarly careless against World Number 107 Nedovyesov, who has never made it past the second round of a major.

Andreas Seppi to beat Nick Kyrgios @ 5/4

The fiery Australian teenager betrayed a somewhat scattered mind with his frequent outbursts in a four-set first round win over Mikhael Youzhny, and it’s worth backing cooler heads to prevail in his clash with veteran Seppi.

Like a fine wine, the 30-year-old Italian has gone better with age, reaching his career peaks in all of the four Grand Slams since 2012.

He matched his best at Flushing Meadows last season by reaching the third round, and he is a smart bet at odds-against to beat Kyrgios after breezing through his first match in straight sets.
