Galway Races: Get your Panama Hat on for day 5

Published:

We’re five days deep in Galway and this column has already dished out such choice selections as Most Peculiar and Dalkova, tipped at 5/1 and 10/1 respectively.

Yes, winners are in season here at news.ladbrokes.com and with that in mind we’re napping a none-more-summery piece of headgear in our quest to reward readers further.

NAP –  Panama Hat @ 4/1– 18:50

Andrew Hayes’ three-year-old is the second highest-rated horse in the Guinness Handicap, yet thanks to his tender years he’ll carry a full 9lbs less than his rating dictates.

It’s a handy little boon to the chances of a colt chasing the five-timer off the back of a three-week break as it mitigates a 36lb rise up the handicap.

A hefty step up it may be, but the fourth from his most recent outing (the re-opposing Teoirim), has triumphed again since.

Having beaten the Jim Bolger horse off a mark of 85 by more than three lengths, hope that the further improvement required to win again is within his compass springs eternal.

NB – Bashful Beauty @ 8/1 – 17:10

Norman Lee’s small operation has been in decent nick in the last fortnight, firing out the selection and Supreme Vic to claim two wins and a duo of silver medallists.

The bashful one broke her duck over hurdles ahead Cacheofgold at Wexford six days ago and that one has gone in again since.

Lively Longshot–  Daffern Seal @ 12/1 – 18:15

Rated 140 after his sixth to Teaforthree in the 2012 four miler at the Cheltenham Festival, the ten-year-old has tumbled down the rankings to a mark of 123 after two years off the track injured and two very moderate comeback runs.

However, trained by Dermot Weld (who can never be counted out at a festival which is his playground) and ridden by crack pilot Brian O’Connell, he represents stellar connections.

A course and distance winner, he could spring a shock with the market a guide.
