Falkirk v Rangers: Boyd goal among 3 best bets

Published:

Punters that laughed off Rangers hopes of going the Championship season unbeaten were vindicated with an opening day loss but the Gers look poised to bounce back against Falkirk.

The hosts do boast an impressive record at home, avoiding defeat in each of their last 15 outings at the Falkirk Community Stadium, but Rangers desire to avoid their first consecutive league defeats since March 2012 make them the side to back.

Here James Curtis highlights the three best bets as Ally McCoist’s side look for a return to winning ways.

Rangers to win @ 4/6

Odds-on bets are not everyone’s cup of tea but having tasted defeat against Hearts on day one Rangers will rarely be better priced in the win-draw-win market this season.

The Ibrox outfit have won 15 and drawn one of the last 16 meetings with Falkirk and while fans looking to ease the pressure on the Glasgow giants’ claims this is a completely new team the presence of Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller in attack begs to differ.

Having played Hibs – in the League Cup – and Hearts Rangers have got two of their hardest games of the season under their belt and McCoist will demand three points for the fans this week.

Rangers to win to nil @ 2/1

Those opposed to odds-on betting could be tempted to take the larger price of 2/1 when backing Rangers to win without conceding, as they have done on the last three occasions when playing Falkirk.

The most recent meeting, 2013’s Scottish Cup clash, saw Rangers run out 2-0 winners, while their 2012 League Cup meeting was even more comfortable at 3-0 and their other meeting that year saw Rangers take a 1-0 win as the away team.

Kris Boyd to score anytime @ 7/2

Boyd is yet to break his competitive duck in his second spell at Rangers but after smashing 22 top flight goals for Kilmarnock last term it’s only a matter of time.

The 30-year-old hasn’t faced Falkirk since December 2009 but will have fond memories of that visit, scoring the opener and an eventual brace in 3-1 win.
