England to bounce back with victory in second ODI

After rebounding from going 1-0 down in the recent Test series against India by winning three on the trot, England will be a hoping for a similar story in the shorter form of the game.

Alastair Cook’s side crumbled to a grisly 161 all out in losing at Cardiff, but the weaknesses in India’s batting line-up remain, and we’re backing the hosts to bring the ODI series level at Trent Bridge as one of our three best bets.

Unfortunately, England have had to form a habit of bouncing back from heavy defeats in all forms of the game of late.

The recent ODI series against Sri Lanka was a classic example of this, as the hosts were skittled for 99 in losing the second match, before winning the third by 10 wickets.

Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 67 in that game, and although India’s batting line-up is better, a similar propensity to collapse was demonstrated by their performances in the Test series.

India’s win at Cardiff came after a run of eight ODIs outside the subcontinent without a win, nine if you include the washout at Bristol, and England should reassert themselves at Trent Bridge.

India’s first wicket to fall for under 25.5 runs @ 5/6

Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has spent the tour generally providing England with a welcome boost at the start of every Indian innings, a run that continued with his 11 at Cardiff.

That wicket came when India had amassed just 19 runs, and the visitors have endured similar issues with their opening partnership in almost all of their recent ODIs.

In the tour of New Zealand at the start of 2014, India made it past 26 runs without losing a wicket just once in five games, and an understrength side achieved the feat in only one out of three recent matches against Bangladesh.

Alex Hales to score over 26.5 runs @ 5/6

Most cricket fans would agree that Hales should have been in England’s one-day side a long time ago, and his 40 runs at the top of the innings were one bright spot of the loss at Cardiff.

The 25-year-old will welcome a visit to what is now his home ground with Nottinghamshire, especially as he recorded a century there in his last limited overs game for his county.

That was his second consecutive List A century, with another 100 sandwiched between them in a First Class match. Hales is a man in irresistible form, this looks like buying money.
