Tom Cleverly has arrived at Goodison Park with a view to thrashing out a deadline day deal.
Aston Villa cooled their interest after the Manchester United man demanded £80,000 per week and interest from Valencia has also waned after the player indicated that Goodison Park would be his preferred destination.
After shelling out £28m on Romelu Lukaku Everton will struggle to stump up a transfer fee so the Toffees are hoping that Cleverley digs his heels in so that a loan move can be struck.
Should the 25-year-old impress on Merseyside a permanent deal could then be agreed if Everton have balanced their books but a return to United looks unlikely regardless.
Roberto Martinez is keen to add competition for places in midfield, especially with Ross Barkley sidelined and following his side’s 6-3 capitulation against Chelsea.
Everton return from the international break with a trip to the Hawthorns and the Blues are priced as 10/11 favourites to win.
