Kamara: Fellaini wrong fit for LVG’s new United era

Marouane Fellaini is set to be one of the high profile casualties of Louis van Gaal’s new era at Manchester United, according to Ladbrokes ambassador Chris Kamara.

Van Gaal is currently running the rule over the United squad with speculation mounting as to who fits into the new manager’s plans and who will be surplus to requirements.

Wilfried Zaha, Shinji Kagawa, Javier Hernandez, Anderson and Nani are all names being linked with a move away from the Red Devils but Kamara believes the curtain is set to come down on the Belgian international’s Old Trafford career this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes News, Kamara said: “It’s a situation where the manager has come in and he has his own style of play and Fellaini may not fit into that style of play.”

“He’s come in and reverted to three at the back in a 3-5-2 formation and his main aim is to stem the flow of goals conceded.

“Under Moyes, United conceded far too many goals and LVG believes his way of doing things can address that and that means Fellaini and the likes of Kagawa, who are better suited to a 4-4-2, could become surplus to requirements.”

Fellaini has suffered a disappointing year with Manchester United following his switch from Everton for £27.5m last summer and is seen as one of the scapegoats of David Moyes’ ill-fated 10-month reign in the Old Trafford dugout.

But Kamara believes the Belgian can bounce back and recapture the form which saw him finish as Everton’s top goalscorer during the 2012/13 season, only if he can work out his best position.

“With Fellaini it’s a case of no-one really knowing what his best position is,” Kamara added.

“He believes he is effective as a defensive midfielder but people who watch football know that just isn’t the case.

“The best I have seen him play was in a more advanced position for Everton alongside Tim Cahill.

“This was where he won the headers and provided flick-ons and knock-downs for his team-mates, while causing havoc to Premier League defences across the country.”

Reports suggest Napoli are interested in taking Fellaini to the Stadio San Paolo with United, who are 5/1 with Ladbrokes to win the Premier League title, looking to recoup at least half of what they shelled out to Everton.

But if that move fails to surface then the former Standard Liege midfielder should take note of the three possible destinations previously suggested by the Ladbrokes News team if he is serious about restoring his battered reputation.
