Celtic vs NK Maribor: McGregor to show Scotland what he can do

Published:

Having rested several first-team stars for their 1-0 defeat away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Celtic should be raring to go when Slovenian league champions NK Maribor visit Parkhead.

The Bhoys can be backed at 4/7 for victory on the night with Ladbrokes, while they are also 2/9 to qualify for the next round with the bookmakers.

Maribor could provide some stern resistance, however, and those confident of an upset can get 5/1 on a win for the Slovenians, who are also 3/1 to progress to the next phase.

Ahead of kick-off, we’ve scoured the markets to bring you three of the best bets to back, with our three selections all favouring the Hoops to do the business yet again at Celtic Park.

Celtic to win to nil @ 11/8

While the Hoops have never truly hit the high notes on the road in the Champions League, they remain a force to be reckoned with at home and have proven particularly solid during the qualifying stages of the competition.

The Legia Warsaw debacle aside, Celtic have won each of their last four European qualifiers to nil and will be confident of continuing that run against a Maribor side with one win from their last six Champions League away games.

Callum McGregor to score anytime @ 5/2

Last week we tipped up the 21-year-old to score at anytime and the Scot duly delivered with Celtic’s priceless opener in a 1-1 draw in Slovenia. That was his fourth goal in seven games for the Bhoys and his third in the qualifying stages of this competition.

Likely to be on a high, after his impressive performances earned him a call-up to the Scotland national team, don’t be surprised to see him net again here.

Celtic to score 2-3 goals @ 21/20

With victory on the night ensuring progress, Celtic will be keen to complete a comfortable victory at Parkhead and the form book suggests they could get just that.

This time last year a 3-0 victory over Shakhter Karagandy was enough to see them through while the previous season saw the Hoops head to the group stage with a 2-0 win over Helsingborgs.

Don’t be surprised to see them get a similar number of goals tonight.
