Published:There are so many sub plots to enjoy among the main storylines of a Premier League season and up next in our series of hotly-anticipated elements to enjoy during 2014/15 features the prospective fortunes of newly-promoted QPR.
Having achieved the infinitely-difficult feat of bouncing striaght back from the Championship at the first time of asking, it’s very intriguing to see whether the Hoops flop or flourish, or end up somewhere in between.
Looking at Ladbrokes’ seasonal prices on the R’s it’s safe to say the firm are predicting it will be a rough ride for the Tony Fernandes-owned club.
Only fellow promotees Burnley (17/2) are afforded longer odds than 6/1-pokes QPR to finish above the Premier League fold.
Meanwhile, the same two clubs are at the sharp end of the relegation betting too, where the Loftus Road outfit are the shortest of the odds-against crowd at 7/4 for immediate freefall.
It’s certainly arguable that the competition has become even fiercer in the space of just 12 months since QPR were dragged down, with many of the lesser lights of last season such as Sunderland making big signings like Jack Rodwell.
Given that FA Cup finalists Hull had a stand-out season and still finished just two places and four points above safety, this is a pretty good yardstick of the Premier League’s ultra-competitiveness.
Still, with the vastly experienced Redknapp at the helm, this is at least a fairly solid foundation on which to build from.
Furthermore, this is a squad splashed with real quality in so many areas and now added to with three high-calibre signings in Rio Ferdinand, Steven Caulker and Jordan Mutch.
If Loic Remy can be persuaded to stay we’ll be lumping on the R’s to stay up at 4/9.
