3 things we can’t wait to see in La Liga this season

Published:

With champions Atletico Madrid losing Diego Costa, David Villa and Felipe Luis this summer La Liga is shaping up to be a two horse race yet again.

Los Blancos are the 5/6 favourites to claim the title with Barcelona 11/10 and Atleti relative outsiders at 14/1.

Sevilla are next in the betting at 150/1 highlighting the lack of competition in the Spanish top flight.

However, while on the surface this might conjur up images of the Scottish Premiership – albeit with balmier weather – this particular two horse race is like pitching Frankel against Shergar!

With little reward coming from backing either of the two market leaders outright here are three things we looking forward to seeing this season.

Real Madrid winning everything

With only two teams looking likely to challenge for the title it’s a 50/50 call on who you want to win.

With Barca’s shady dealings in the transfer market and their willingness to sign Luis Suarez at the height of his mischievous infamy its hard to get behind a Catalan title push.

Real have harked back to the Galacticos times of years gone by in building their current squad and whether you’re a Madrid fan or a neutral Carlo Ancelotti’s men should be playing some of the best football on the planet this year.

Hopefully this results in a clean sweep for the Bernabeu outfit.

James Rodriguez holding his own with Ronaldo and Bale

If you’re looking for an alternative to Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo in the top scorer market – don’t bother, it just isn’t going to happen.

That doesn’t mean that other players cannot shine though and after hitting his side’s goal in the Madrid derby James Rodriguez looks likely to step up to the plate this term.

The Colombian lit up the World Cup and while Ronaldo and Bale will get top billing for Real this term it’d be good to see Rodriguez progress in the side and earn a place at the top table.

Even if it means having to hear commentators spit the word “Hamez” into their mics with increasing regularity!

The Clasicos of course…

There are other games of course but there are other Colas besides Coke and Pepsi but no one’s interested!

El Clasico is one of the most hotly anticipated fixtures in world football and with Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema and Angel Di Maria among those boosting Madrid’s ranks and Barca welcoming Suarez back in time for the big meeting this season promises to offer up some classic Clasicos!
