Chelsea’s title odds fall after comfortable Burnley win

Published:

Jose Mourinho talked down Chelsea’s chances of landing the Premier League title last year but is far more bullish about the Blues chances this time round.

And after getting their campaign off to a flying start with a 3-1 win over Burnley, the bookies agree with the Special One’s tip that the title will be heading to Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are now the out-and-out favourites to take Manchester City’s crown at 6/4, with the Citizens just trailing at 7/4.

A Champions League place looks nailed on after just one game, with the Pensioners given odds of 1/20 to finish in the top four.

With that not being a working man’s price, title backers and trend spotters alike could have their confidence in Chelsea’s title odds boosted by the knowledge that Mourinho has not been in charge of a club for two seasons without winning the league since taking the helm at Porto in 2002.

While Manchester United’s new-look line-up hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons on the opening weekend of the season, Stamford Bridge newboys Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas looked more than at home in the Chelsea shirt.

Costa, who arrived from La Liga winners Atletico Madrid in the summer, wasted no time announcing himself on the scene, scoring the first of Chelsea’s three goals to restore parity with the Clarets.

The Brazilian-born Spain international is now as short as 5/1 to be the Premier League’s top scorer in his first season in the English top flight with only Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge – also priced at 5/1 – for company at the head of the market.

Next up for Mourinho’s men is the visit of Leicester, for which the \blues are priced as 1/5 favourites, and with Manchester City and Arsenal facing Liverpool and Everton respectively an early chance for the Blues to forge a lead could well present itself.
