Breaking Bets: Can Jovetic repeat double against Stoke?

Published:

Stevan Jovetic was the hero as Manchester City put Liverpool to the sword to lay down a marker for their Premier League bid on Monday night.

The Montenegrin fired a goal either side of the half time break at the Etihad to help champions City record an impressive 3-1 victory over last year’s runners up.

The brace showed that the 24-year-old is finally ready to deliver on the promise that all around Eastlands know he possesses and Ladbrokes has made the player the latest subject of its popular Breaking Bets series ahead of this weekend’s fixtures.

City host Stoke on Saturday and Ladbrokes is offering odds of 6/1 that Jovetic proves the difference again with two or more goals against the Potters.

Jovetic may appear to be an overnight sensation to the uninitiated but City fans have been waiting for him to take the spotlight for some time.

The former Fiorentina ace showed at the back end of last season that he was ready to hit the ground running this time around but the stats show he has always been a threat.

Even in last year’s injury-hit campaign Jovetic netted eight goals from 20 appearances and this followed his last two seasons in Florence, both of which yielded double-digit returns.

The 2012-13 campaign saw a tally of 13 goals from 37 games for La Viola and Montenegro and this was just a fraction below the 15 in 31 for club and country he managed the year before.

With Edin Dzeko an injury doubt for the visit of Mark Hughes’ side Jovetic could well lead the line and looks a great bet to get on the scoresheet once again.

City are the heavy favourites to win the match at 2/11 and should they dominate proceedings as expected it stands to reason that Jovetic will be among the key protagonists.

Stoke, who drew with Hull last time out in the league, can be backed at 14/1 to cause an upset, with the draw available at 6/1, but it is Jovetic who perhaps looks the best value pick after his star showing against the Reds.
