The West Yorkshire derby may mean more to Bradford than it does Leeds but that hasn’t hampered United’s success in recent meetings.
The Elland Road outfit have won five and drawn one of the last six meetings with the Bantams and despite back-to-back losses in the Championship should have enough to improve that run here.
However, the bookies are finding it hard to separate the teams, with Bradford marginal favourites at 8/5 and Leeds priced at 13/8 for the win.
The draw is available at 12/5 but Ladbrokes News has scoured the rest of the markets to bring you three best bets for this League Cup derby.
United may be priced as the slight underdogs for this tie but if history is to be relied upon it is David Hockaday’s side that will march on.
As mentioned above Leeds are undefeated in six meetings with Bradford, winning the most recent fixture 3-2 in 2011.
In fact Leeds have lost just three of their last 10 League Cup games – against Chelsea, Newcastle and Manchester United.
Bradford, however, have scored in six of their last seven as hosts in this competition so will make their neighbours work hard for the win.
Souleymane Doukara’s was the hero in the last round, with his double setting up Leeds’ win over Accrington Stanley. But with the 22-year-old sidelined through injury it is Sharp who will be themain goal threat.
The striker opened his account by netting in the recent win over Middlesbrough and looks likely to build on that platform against lower opposition here.
This selection requires a little more faith in David Hockaday than has been present so far but Leeds’ results in this competition of late lend themselves to the bet.
In all of their last seven League Cup matches United have gone it at the break in a winning position.
With one eye on the weekend’s Championship ties it stands to the reason that if Leeds get their noses in front by the break they will be less adventurous in the second half and attempt to stand firm to see out the result.
