Aston Villa v Newcastle: Magpies primed for slim road victory

Published:

Last season, Aston Villa lost their trip to the fiery surroundings of Stoke’s Britannia Stadium. So, having sealed a 1-0 win there in the first game of the season it seems the signing of a few experienced heads and the addition of Roy Keane as assistant manager has changed the balance.

Of course, one game is not a sample size worthy of deep analysis and, if the history of their battles with Newcastle are anything to go by, normality will return in the side’s first Villa Park outing of the campaign, where they spent most of last term losing and had the fourth-worst record in the division.

Ahead of Alan Pardew’s visit, we present the three bets for the game:

Newcastle to win by one goal – 4/1

A 6-0 Newcastle win at St James’ Park is the only time in the last nine clashes between these two where they have been separated by more than one goal.

The Geordies have prevailed by a single strike in four games during that stretch, including in all of the last three meetings between the pair.

Newcastle to win 2-1 – 10/1

The most common scoreline in those four one-goal wins was a 2-1 Magpies victory, which was read out during the classifieds three times.

In addition, the last two times Newcastle visited maroon midlands country they travelled back home with a 2-1 win secured too.

Both teams to score – 3/4

In the last three seasons, this fixture has become a staple for both teams to score backers, obliging in all but one of the last six meetings.
