We can’t wait to see….Leicester outperform their expectations

In the run-up to the Premier League season’s grand opening, the writers at news.ladbrokes have been getting themselves all in a tizzy over various things they can’t wait to see during the course of the campaign.

In a continuation of the series, we start to get a little worked up over the possibility of one of this year’s promoted trio outperforming their expectations.

Crystal Palace, West Ham and Swansea all sprung surprises in their first stints in the top-flight following promotion of late and of this year’s crop, it’s Leicester who we believe have the best tools to continue the trend.

The Foxes, who at 21/10 are not among the three favourites for relegation according to Ladbrokes, will take any finish higher than 17 as they look to re-establish themselves as Premier League constants once again.

At 4/11 to survive, it’s clear the bookie agrees that a surprise could be in the offing for the midlands club, and if their history settling into new surroundings is anything to go by, that certainly seems feasible.

Having first punched their Premier League ticket in 1996/97, the current Championship holders followed up their playoff victory in the previous campaign with a ninth-place finish.

Then, having bounced back up onto the top table in 2003/04, Leicester finished a respectable 18th place despite being plagued by financial troubles and off-field controversies.

Even when they suffered the indignity of Championship relegation, they immediately bounced back up, celebrating their re-found second-tier status with a play-off berth.

Acquisitions like Marc Albrighton, Matthew Upson and Leonardo Ulloa indicate they have the kind of money needed to over perform, and the 11/10 on them being the top promoted club this term looks extremely enticing.
