Villa’s No.2 can revive fortunes of Chelsea’s forgotten forward

It’s that time of year where rumours spring out of the woodwork like worms and one of the latest proposed moves looks like it would suit both parties handsomely.

Reliable sources have linked Chelsea misfit Victor Moses with a move to join Aston Villa.

It only seems like yesterday that Moses was banging in the goals for Crystal Palace during a mid-winter hot streak before being snapped up by Premier League side Wigan in January 2011.

However, a career so full of promise that Chelsea then paid the Latics £9m in the summer of 2012, has since slumped like a teenager on their favourite sofa.

A lack of first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge saw Moses pawned out on loan at Liverpool last season, but even then Brendan Rodgers could barely give the Nigerian international any minutes at Anfield.

What Moses needs is first-team football and a friendly arm around his shoulder. That’s exactly what Villa can offer the winger/come forward.

Paul Lambert and more pertinently Roy Keane can even offer double the encouragement to a player with untold talent but whose application has been found wanting.

A renowned task master like Keane, with obvious motivational skills, the Manchester United legend could well be the perfect candidate to coax an extra 20 per cent out of Moses’ performances.

With Christian Benteke rumoured to be out until October, Villa’s all-time Premier League top scorer Gabriel Agbonlahor is likely to be installed up front leaving Moses the perfect wide-forward slot to fill.

If Keane can get Moses firing on all cylinders then the 3/1 about Villa finishing above Stoke, Leicester and West Brom as the top Midlands club will look very good indeed.
