Vidal heads Top 5 World Cup stars we’d love in the Premier League
Published:We’d all love to see World Cup Golden Ball winner Lionel Messi lining up in the Premier League next season, but a newsflash just in says ‘it ain’t gonna happen’, not yet anyway.
However, there were plenty of others to have graced the turf in Brazil who could more realistically fill the Luis Suarez-shaped void, and here they are:
Arturo Vidal – Chile/Juventus
The all-action Juve midfielder was instrumental in Chile’s run to the knock-out stages and were it not for the cruelty of penalties, Vidal could have gone on to grand things in Brazil. Three consecutive scudettos speak volumes and 5/1 title shots Manchester United want a slice of the action.
Guillermo Ochoa – Mexico/Ajaccio
Had it not been for the towering performances of eventual Golden Glove winner Manuel Neuer, Ochoa’s acrobatics could well have earned him the accolade. The below save from Neymar has drawn comparisons with Gordon Banks.
Marcos Rojo – Argentina/Sporting Lisbon
Probably little-known to many before his country’s run to the final, Argentina’s versatile defender proved a revelation at the World Cup – even scoring the winner against Nigeria. Strong and athletic, Rojo would make a fine addition to any Premier League defence.
Mathieu Valbuena – France/Marseille
Quick, get your bids in now for France’s diminutive string-pulling genius. Latest reports suggest Marseille have agreed a ridiculously modest fee of €7m with Dynamo Moscow for his services but the French club are expecting other approaches.
Angel di Maria – Argentina/Real Madrid
Di Maria was incredibly unlucky to miss the final two matches of the tournament, but the star of Real Madrid’s Champions League win still showed his undoubted class before getting injured. A rumoured snub of PSG will give the likes of United and Chelsea hope he could be tempted into a move to the Premier League.
