Tottenham target leading the way in goalkeepers’ World Cup

Published:

Goals galore, shock results and beautiful football are just some of the things Brazil 2014 will be remembered for, as will goalkeeping heroics.

The latest stellar showing came from Germany’s number one Manuel Neuer, who produced a display of sweeping that legendary Italian defender Franco Baresi would have been proud of to help the 9/2-World Cup shots squeeze past Algeria into the last eight.

However, while Neuer’s reputation as a worldy stopper was already cemented this lot below have shot to prominence purely off the back of Brazil and could easily find themselves wowing Premier League audiences as a result this season.

Guillermo Ochoa (Mexico) – To Tottenham?

Thanks largely to Arjen Robben’s dastardly diving we’ve sadly seen the last of Mexico’s man with the lightning reflexes.

However, if rumours linking Hugo Lloris with a move to PSG bare fruit, Ochoa would be a brilliant replacement.

Keylor Navas (Costa Rica) – to Arsenal?

It’s a move which has already been mooted on this very site (link) and the Gunners are in desperate need of a glove merchant after losing Lukasz Fabianski to Swansea.

Given Wojciech Szczesny’s wobbly form, Costa Rica’s rock would be a fantastic addition.

Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria) – To Manchester City?

Joe Hart’s position as Man City’s number one came under scrutiny for a period last season and a poor World Cup will hardly keep the detractors at bay.

Now his gigantic understudy Costel Pantimilion has joined Sunderland, Super Eagles’ stopper Enyeama would be the perfect man to keep Hart on his toes.

Rais M’Bolhi (Algeria) – To Hull?

Algeria’s net minder plies his trade at CSKA Sofia but after his displays hurling himself around in the African country’s net, it would be no surprise to see a Premier League team approach him.

Against France, splendid saves from Thomas Muller and Philipp Lahm almost aided one of the greatest shocks in World Cup history. Hull have Alan McGregor as first choice, but at 32 the Scotland stopper is no spring chicken.
