Swansea issue hands-off warning regarding Bony

Southampton fans will be wishing new manager Ronald Koeman had the resolve of his Swansea counterpart after Garry Monk issued a hands-off Wilfried Bony warning to potential suitors.

The Saints have lost Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, Luke Shaw and Calum Chambers already and are poised for bids for Dani Osvaldo, Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin.

Swansea manager Monk refuses to follow suit, however, and recently told Liverpool that only an “astronomical” amount of money would prize Bony away from the Liberty Stadium.

The Reds are reportedly looking to land Bony after pulling out of a deal at the last minute to sign QPR’s Loic Remy.

Liverpool claim a medical failure on Remy’s part scuppered the deal but Rs boss Harry Redknapp is certain they are mistaken.

Regardless of how the Remy deal collapsed though, Monk is insistent that it will not affect his plans for the season ahead.

“It has to be made loud and clear, the fact is he is not for sale, unless someone comes in with an astronomical offer which does happen,” he said.

“Unless they want to pay an astronomical fee, then he is going nowhere.”

Bony, 25, smashed 16 goals last season to sit joint sixth in the Premier League scoring tables and in the absence of Luis Suarez could be among the frontrunners for the campaign ahead – wherever he plays.

The Ivorian is priced at 20/1 to be the top scorer for the new season, with the likes of new boys Diego Costa (6/1) and Alexis Sanchez (14/1) ahead of him in the betting.

However, Bony’s experience in the top flight could see him outshine the new Chelsea and Arsenal hit men even if Monk gets his wish and he stays put.

If he leaves however, this price is sure to shorten as he becomes surrounded by a better supporting cast so the advice is to get on Bony while the price is right.
