Spurs among three teams who should bid for Chelsea striker

Published:

Every so often a player becomes available who should be jumped upon by other Premier League clubs, only for said player to slink off into the sunset.

One such potential match winner looking set for a possible future in Turkey, is Chelsea striker Demba Ba, although Besiktas’ desires for a loan deal rather than a preferred permanent sale, is thought to be putting the 15/8 title shots off.

This is a situation that should have several other top-flight clubs chomping at the bit to blow Besiktas out the water with an offer for the 29-year-old Senegalese.

Ba is a striker of immense Premier League pedigree – finishing spells at West Ham and Newcastle with a greater than one-in-two scoring ratio – before his ill-fated stint with the Blues.

Tottenham

The fact that Spurs managed the lowest amount of goals of the top seven last season (55 compared to Manchester City’s 102) means a poacher of Ba’s quality should be high on Daniel Levy’s list.

If Mauricio Pochettino is to break into the top four in his debut season, he’ll need more than the six league goals Roberto Soldado contributed in 2013/14.

Newcastle

Given that their on-loan top scorer of last season Loic Remy harbours no desires to remain on Tyneside, Alan Pardew is in serious need of extra firepower. It was a glorious union before – 29 goals in 54 appearances – and could be again.

Everton

In a similar boat to the Magpies, the Toffees hopes of retaining their own loan star, Romelu Lukaku, are slim at best.

Ba is an athletic target man in the same mould as Lukaku and could easily operate in Roberto Martinez’s preferred lone-striker system.
