QPR set to boost safety hopes with double European swoop

QPRs bid for Premier League survival looks set to be given a boost as the west London club closes in on a double transfer swoop.

The Loftus Road outfit recently unveiled former Cardiff defender Steven Caulker and ex-Manchester United man Rio Ferdinand with the later admitting consolidation is this seasons aim but manager Harry Redknapp is seeking further reinforcements.

Rangers are predicted to have a troubled time back in the top flight, with Ladbrokes pricing Redknapps side at 17/10 for relegation despite the acquisition of the defensive duo.

These odds could lengthen however, if transfer specialist Redknapp lands his next target, Marseille and France ace Mathieu Valbuena.

The Hoops are said to be in a straight battle with West Ham for the 29-year-old World Cup star after the player turned down the opportunity to sign for Dinamo Moscow.

Valbuena has scored 25 goals in 227 games for LOM but is best known for his link-up play as shown by the eight international assists he provided for France last year.

Redknapp is also hoping to protect his back four by bringing in Elches Colombian hardman Carlos Sanchez.

The combative midfielder is available for around 4m and possesses a style of play that should make a Premier League move a smooth transition.

Redknapp is being forced to operate on a tighter budget after seeing Liverpools move for Loic Remy collapse amid speculation over the strikers fitness.

The Rs boss is looking on the bright side of the situation though and claims he is more than happy to have a player he describes as one of the best forwards in the division at his disposal.

If QPR can keep hold of Remy and land Redknapps current targets the 6/1 one on a top 10 finish could prove the better value bet than any relegation odds.
