Price Boost: Liverpool enhanced for top four finish

Liverpool’s pre-season schedule will carry an air of familiarity tonight when the Reds face off with Manchester City in the International Champions Cup

The New York showdown pitches last year’s champions against last year’s runners-up and the game will also represent a chance to back Liverpool for success this term at a boosted price.

Ladbrokes is set to enhance the Reds’ top four odds from 4/5 to 2/1 (£25 max bet) for a limited time from 20:00 on Wednesday July 30.

Given Brendan Rodgers’ side were a Steven Gerrard slip away from landing their first ever Premier League crown last year the chance to treble your money on a top-four placing looks a licence to print money.

The Anfield outfit may have lost goal machine Luis Suarez but Rodgers’ pursuit of much of the Southampton team that surprised last year looks set to prove a shrewd piece of business.

Rickie Lambert and Adam Lallana have already proven that they can complement each other and the chance to play with a better supporting cast should only help elevate both men’s performance levels.

Liverpool  have had an indifferent pre-season tour so far, beating the likes of Shamrock Rovers, Preston North End and Olympiakios but losing to Brøndby and Roma.

However, little can be gleaned from these friendly outings and with Southampton Liverpool’s first opponents in the Premier League a flying start is expected in Merseyside.

While Liverpool have poached Dejan Lovren in addition to Lambert and Lallana the south coast side have also lost Luke Shaw to Manchester United, and Calum Chambers to Arsenal while Jose Fonte, Jay Rodriguez and Morgan Schneiderlin are also expected to depart.

The exodus sees Liverpool priced as 2/5 favourites to win their opening game and with Manchester City the only really dangerous opponents the Reds will face in the league until November there is plenty of time for Rodgers’ side to find their groove in the chase for Champions League football.
