Newmarket July Meeting: Noozah Canarias ready to raid
Published:The rain continues to fall at Newmarket and we’ve factored in conditions for our best bets on the final day of the July Festival.
The Bunbury Cup and the July Cup are the two highlights we’ve focused on, while we’ve also picked out a selection from one of the day’s other big races in the Group 2 Superlative Stakes.

French jockey Christophe Soumillon is given the mount of Spanish raider NOOZAH CANARIAS and we wouldn’t be too surprised to see him return home from Newmarket with the July Cup prize.
To some this might not seem like ‘nap’ material.
But the step down in trip and a bit of cut in the ground should work wonders for the front-runner following a respectable sixth-placed finish in the 2000 Guineas.
Expect Due Diligence to lead the Aidan O’Brien charge while Diamond Jubilee winner Slade Power looks to be the main threat.
Another hotly-contested renewal could continue to spring a few surprises with only one favourite winning in the last 10 years.
However, that doesn’t discount market leader and Buckingham Palace Stakes runner-up Horsted Keynes.
Roger Varian’s fancy re-opposes the winner of that race, Louis the Pious, on better terms but our preference goes to ABSEIL.
The Sir Michael Stoute-trained four-year-old was edged out of contention in the Royal Hunt Cup at Ascot but soft ground may suit better in this contest.
Much of the market’s attention is likely to focus on Aidan O’Brien’s comfortable Curragh winner Gleneagles following his victory last time out.
But we’re looking elsewhere with the Mark Johnston-trained MISTER UNIVERSE standing out as a selection who could offer a bit of value.
The Abdulla Al Mansoori-owned charge looked decent enough when landing his maiden on good to soft at York back in May.
And his breeding suggests that this step up in trip to 7f should pose few problems for the talented juvenile with sire Cape Cross a previous Lockinge winner.
