Newmarket July Meeting: Ivawood best bet to deliver on day one

NAP – Ivawood – July Stakes (14:10)
Richard Hannon and Richard Hughes have taken three of the last four renewals and can continue to build upon that impressive record with IVAWOOD.
An odds-on victory on debut at Sandown was comfortable enough and given the trainer-jockey team involved, it’s relatively easy to support the two-year-old’s follow-up bid.
Coventry Stakes-third Jungle Cat is another who boasts strong credentials while Aidan O’Brien will be hoping for more from The Great War following his charge’s disappointing run at Royal Ascot.
NB – Forever Now – Bahrain Trophy (13:40)
The John Gosden-William Buick partnership have dominated this race in recent years and the pair look set to land another Bahrain Trophy renewal with FOREVER NOW.
This Group 3 contest represents a big step up in class for the Lady Bamford-owned three-year-old.
However, an eight-length triumph at Doncaster last time out shows this son of Galileo is ready to mix it in better company while a previous runner-up placing at HQ should stand him in good stead on his return to the track.
Elsewhere, the hat-trick chasing Vent De Force is one to watch out for over this trip while Queen’s Vase winner Hartnell should also have a say.
Lively Longshot – Cavalryman – Princess of Wales’s Stakes (14:40)
Sir Michael Stoute’s Arab Spring is understandably receiving the most attention given his excellent form and saddler’s record in this race.
Six victories in the last 14 runnings for trainer Stoute tells its own story with a fifth straight win for Arab Spring looking the most likely outcome on paper.
But if you’re looking for a bit of value then CAVALRYMAN could be the answer.
Godolphin’s consistent sort is still going strong at eight-years-old and would prove to be a popular winner following a hat-trick of near-misses at Newmarket.
Despite being beaten into third in last year’s renewal, don’t write-off a charge fresh from a successful spring on turf in Meydan.
