Newcastle’s De Jong deal one of 5 transfers you may have missed

Published:

With an enthralling World Cup quenching everyone’s thirst for entertainment over the past three weeks, it’s been easy to take one’s finger off the transfer pulse.

While the likes of Cesc Fabregas’ move to Chelsea from Barcelona is pretty sure to have registered with most footy fans, there have been plenty of Premier League comings-and-goings that may have slipped under the radar.

Here’s five deals that have gone through since the festivities in Brazil took over the airwaves:

Bafetimbi Gomis – Lyon to Swansea (Free)

The former Lyon striker could prove to be somewhat of a steal for the Swans as they potentially prepare for life without Wilfried Bony and Michu. Gomis, 28, has penned a four-year deal and has scored 20+ goals in his last three seasons in France.

Siem de Jong – Ajax to Newcastle (undisclosed)

Fresh from winning four consecutive Eredivisie titles, Newcastle have landed themselves an attacking midfielder with an eye for goal. Still only 25, De Jong bagged himself 78 goals in 244 appearances at Ajax and brings plenty of Champions League experience with him to St James’ Park.

Liam Ridgewell – West Brom to Portland Timbers (Free)

Notorious west Midlands club allegiance-swapper Ridgewell, was released by the Baggies and rather than complete his Black Country pilgrimage at Wolverhampton Wanderers, the defender has opted for the north west instead. North-west USA.

Joleon Lescott – Manchester City to West Brom

While Ridgewell finds his passport, England international Lescott will be taking his spot in the Hawthorns dressing room. Cast off by the 7/4 Premier League title favourites, the former Evertonian should get much more game time at West Brom.

Jake Livermore – Tottenham to Hull (£8m)

Having formed a formidable central midfield partnership with former Spurs teammate Tom Huddlestone on loan at the KC Stadium last season, it’s no surprise to see Steve Bruce pay out a similar fee for Livermore.
