Nadal conqueror set for short-lived high on day 9 at Wimbledon

Published:

You can tell when a tennis tournament is reaching its business end when all the round of matches start to have the word “final” attached to them.

That’s the stage this year’s Wimbledon has reached, with the quarter finals of both singles events getting underway in SW19.

Some big names may have already exited the tournament, but there’s no shortage of quality bets for day nine. Here’s our selection of the best:

Sabine Lisicki to beat Simona Halep @ 2/1

Last year’s runner-up had to battle past a shoulder niggle as well as her opponent to reach the last eight of Wimbledon for the fourth consecutive year.

Whether the treatment Lisicki received during and after her fourth-round match patches her up enough to progress further is a mystery, but this tournament has been a curse for high female seeds.

Halep, the third seed, is the only player remaining from the top five and could well be joining her four compatriots through in the departures lounge against a formidable grass-court player.

Milos Raonic to beat Nick Kyrgios 3-0 @ 9/4

Kyrgios is the teenage Australian sensation the tennis world is talking about after blasting Rafael Nadal out of the tournament.

Such a career high takes time to come down from though and the fact the young wildcard’s win was a mere 24 hours ago weighs against him.

Raonic also has the added advantage of having played Kyrgios before, beating him in straight sets in the French Open recently.

Eugenie Bouchard v Angelique Kerber to go to three sets @ 5/4

These two have grown used to meeting each other at Grand Slams, having battled it out at the US Open last year and then again at the French earlier this season, with both winning one match each.

Canadian Bouchard hasn’t lost a set yet in this Wimbledon tournament, but faces a fighter in Kerber who defeated Maria Sharapova in three sets last time out and has seen three of her four SW19 matches go the distance so far.
