How Man Utd can help Real Madrid make Falcao latest Galactico

It’s been a typical summer transfer window for Real Madrid this year, as wads of cash get blown without a seconds thought on star names from around the world.

Toni Kroos has joined from Bayern Munich, while James Rodriguez followed up his superb World Cup with a £63m switch from Monaco.

The spending doesn’t look likely to end there though, as the Champions League holders eye another capture from the French principality, with a pursuit of Colombian striker Radamel Falcao.

Before they can lodge any bid, it’s thought they have to move some of their current world-beaters in order to the fund the deal, which is where Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United come in.

Having spoken of the club’s ability to pay hefty sums of money for a player should they so wish, the Dutchman’s need for another new central midfielder could see him offer the £47.5m Madrid want for Angel Di Maria.

Should they meet Los Blancos’ demands on the Argentine’s price tag, Madrid would then be able to swoop for Falcao, who terrorised La Liga defences in his time with Atletico Madrid – scoring 52 goals in 68 league appearances.

United have already captured a La Liga marauder in Ander Herrera, but need further recruits to strengthen an area of the pitch highlighted as their weakest for some time.

Di Maria, who converted to a central-midfield role under Carlo Ancelotti when Gareth Bale arrived, has thrived in the position both for Madrid last season, then again for Argentina at the recent World Cup.

The Red Devils’ price to win the Premier League this term currently stands at 5/1, although with so much competition for top spot, perhaps the 3/10 on a return to the top four would be a safer option.
